BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – When Michelle Sengsourya founded the Brevard Health Care Social Network in the Spring of 2011 she expected the networking group would start small and grow over time.

Sengsourya was pleasantly surprised to have 110 local business people show up at that first gathering – and the group has been going strong ever since.

Over the last year, Brevard Health Care Social Network has attracted sponsors, gathered donations for charities and offered health and medical professionals a valuable venue for networking and fundraising at the same time.

“When my company expanded in Brevard County, I was struck by the friendliness of the medical community,” said Sengsourya, who is the Ancillary Coordinator for ICON Medical Equipment. “I visualized a monthly social in which health professionals can build relationships and team up to better serve their clients.”

ICON Medical Equipment, located in the One Senior Place complex in Viera, Florida, is a mobility company that helps their client qualify for a power wheel chair.

“We submit all necessary paperwork to our client’s doctor and insurance provider,” said Sengsourya.

“At ICON we adapt and create a customized power device to fit their lifestyle, and we also provide complimentary delivery, set up, training and demonstration on their new mobility device.  We also advocate on our client’s behalf with their insurance provider, allowing the client to focus on returning to optimal health and independence.”

Space Coast Medicine Supports the Brevard Health Care Social Network

ICON Medical Management sponsors the network gatherings and co-sponsors now include Senior Partner Care, Grand Villa, Space Coast Medicine magazine, and Space Coast Medicine’s parent company, Maverick Multimedia.

Brevard Health Care Social Network’s mission is, “Where Health Care Professionals come together to support and raise funds for Florida charities” – and they do just that.

Each month, the Brevard Health Care Social Network hosts a Brevard Health Care Happy Hour mixer. There is no upfront membership fee, as attendees make a small monetary donation at the door, and then enjoy socializing, hors d’oeuvres, beverages and networking with others in healthcare industry.

“Each month, the sponsors choose a specific charity to recognize with fundraising,” said Sengsourya. “One hundred percent of the door charge goes to the selected charity.”

In recent months, the Brevard Health Care Social Network has raised funds for Joe’s Club, the American Heart Association, Haven for Children and Toys for Tots.

The next Happy Hour Mixer will be Thursday, March 22 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Squid Lips, located at 1477 Pineapple Avenue in Melbourne. The gathering will benefit the MS Walk Brevard. A $10 donation covers appetizers, cocktails, music and networking. E-mail BHCSN@yahoo.com to RSVP.

“We can all help create a world free of multiple sclerosis,” said Sengsourya. “We invite everyone to join us March 22nd, enjoy the networking, and help us raise money for Walk MS Brevard.” For more information on Walk MS Brevard, log on to http://walkflc.NationalMSSociety.org
