BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In uncertain economic times, parents have come to rely on Dr. Douglas Barimo and the North Brevard Children’s Pediatrics for their child’s medical needs.

Dr. Douglas Barimo

Barimo leads a staff of 30 that also includes three other physicians (Dr. Ravi Raman, Dr. Ayesha Rashid and Dr. Charlene Vargas) and two nurse practitioners (Heather Hansen and Megan Kemmerling) focused on preventative health care for kids.

“We’re here to keep kids healthy, keep them fit and doing well in school,” Barimo said. “Our emphasis is on the whole child and not just illness.”

With more than 35,000 office visits a year and featuring extended hours that include Saturdays, Barimo said parents have found a trusting health partner for their children at North Brevard Children’s Pediatrics two locations — one in Titusville and the other in Port St. John.

“We try to treat each child as individuals,” Barimo said. “Children have illnesses and it’s not their fault. They want to get better and they do get better faster than adults. We are here to improve kids’ lives and hopefully to make a difference in the community long term.”

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, as the practice has been recognized by the Brevard Physicians Network as one of the top performers for 2011 based upon Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set care and service.

“We’re here to keep kids healthy, keep them fit and doing well in school – Our emphasis is on the whole child and not just illness.”

“We believe in community involvement,” Barimo said. “We are partners with Titusville High School and Jackson Middle School for wellness and have been asked to speak about children’s health care issues many times at area elementary schools.”

He said with the end of the space shuttle program, many North Brevard families are facing difficult times trying to make ends meet, but shouldn’t overlook their children’s health.

“We want our families and the community in general to know we remain committed to providing the best possible care we can for their children at all times,” Barimo said. “We are part of their safety net and respect their trust in us.”

For Barimo, his commitment extends across decades of care.

“I just saw a 24-year-old pregnant woman here that I provided care for when she was a child,” he said. “She wants to bring her newborn child here too. That says a lot about how well we’ve done over the years.”

North Brevard Children’s Pediatrics is at 1653 Jess Parrish Court in Titusville and 7075b North Cocoa Boulevard in Port St. John. For information call 321- 267-5965.
