Ed and Jeanne were there to greet the several hundred guests who attended the informal but elegant fund-raising occasion.  The event attracted some 525 people and raised more than $225,000 (net) for the Cancer Care Foundation.

Great Social Gathering

The annual Caring Hearts Benefit has been hosted at the Andres for the last seven years.  It’s an evening of wine, food and friends – with music and a live auction that raises tens of thousands of dollars for the Foundation.

It’s a great social gathering of like-minded people whose number one priority is cancer patients and their families.  All Foundation proceeds go to benefit cancer patients in Brevard and Indian River Counties.

Live Auction

Evelyn Foster addresses the attendees before the fun auction got underway.

The main attraction of the evening was the live auction – featuring jewellery, art, holidays and other exciting donations from the Brevard community.

Bidding was brisk as always from the guests seated outside beneath an elegant canopy in the gardens.

Jeanne Andre gave a welcome to all her guests before the fun auction got underway – and there was also a message of support from Foundation Board chairman Evelyn Foster, another key figure in the organisation of the event.

The cheers ran out as generous guests dug deep into their pockets to bid for items and raise much-needed funds for cancer patients.  The Live Auction also featured many trip packages including ones to California and Paris – and was conducted by Barbara West and American Fundraising Auctions.

The highest bid of $10,000 went for a trip to California.  The live auction proceeds were around $95,000. There was also a silent auction, where guests could register their bids for items placed out on display.

Great Hospitality

The touch and go weather did not keep guests and sponsors away from the Caring Hearts Benefit.  The Caring Hearts Committee decided on Friday to tent the Andre’s back yard just in case of rain.

Tim Webber, the coordinator from Orlando, was the caterer for the evening.  Tim was also a major in-kind donor to the event and also provided the tents and decor.

Wonderful Food

Guests enjoyed a signature martini as they arrived and food stations that included Baked Brie and variety of cheese spreads, Mediterranean Selections, Hummus, Salsa and Olive Tapenades and Whole Salmon Presentation.

There were also Grilled Beef Skewers, Thai Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Grilled Spring Vegetables, Tomatoes and Mozzarella, Basil Salad, Shrimp and Grits, Rosemary Roasted Chicken, Yukon Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Corn Salad and Curry Chicken Salad.

The Melbourne High School Culinary Class, under the direction of Mike Ferguson, provided the desserts and Heart Shaped Brownies were provided by Christian Culinary.  Coffee Station was provided by the Cosmic Café.  Dona Soledad Band played during the evening.
