Crosswinds’ Barker Receives UCF Award

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Christine Barker, Director of Counseling Services at Crosswinds Youth Services, received the University of Central Florida School of Social Work’s award as Bachelor of Social Work Field Instructor of the Year at the school’s graduation on May 1.

The award recognized Ms. Barker for her supervision of social work students from UCF as interns working with children and youth and their families at Crosswinds.  Ms. Barker, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from Barnard College and her Master’s of Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work.

As the Director of Counseling Services, Ms. Barker provides clinical supervision to counselors in the youth shelter and other Crosswinds programs.

She also directs the Independent Living Program (services to youth in foster care and young adults formerly in foster care; the Transitional Living Program (residential services to formerly homeless young adults); and the community-based Child and Family in Need of Services (CINS/FINS) program, including counseling and case management and the continuum of state-mandated services for truants, runaways, and ungovernable youth.

Crosswinds Youth Services, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in Cocoa, Florida which offers a range of programs and services for our area’s youth and their families.
