Regional Quarterfinals Test Prep Baseball Squads

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Never say die. That’s the attitude that a number of prep baseball coaches are looking for as the state regional quarterfinals wrap up tonight for high schools in Brevard County.

Regional quarterfinal games were played Wednesday night in some classes, with the remainder of the first-round schedule to be completed today.

In Class 3A, host Melbourne Central Catholic eliminated Maitland Orangewood Christian 2-0 to advance to the regional semifinals Tuesday at Winter Park Trinity Prep.

Two Class 5A teams also played regional quarterfinal games Wednesday.

Rockledge shut out Auburndale 1-0, while Lake Wales edged Merritt Island 1-0 in nine innings. The Raiders will host Lake Wales in the regional semifinals Tuesday.

In Class 7A, the Viera Hawks were eliminated 3-0 at Winter Springs.

Six more squads will compete in regional quarterfinal matchups today.

In Class 6A, district champion Melbourne hosts Daytona Beach Seabreeze and district runner-up Eau Gallie travels to meet Edgewater.

The Satellite Scorpions will host Lake Highland Prep in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal, while Space Coast travels to Orlando to meet Bishop Moore Catholic in another Class 4A regional quarterfinal contest.

Two Class 2A teams also try to stay alive in the state playoffs today.

Merritt Island Christian travels to Winter Garden to play Foundation Academy in the 2A regional quarterfinals.

The homeschooled Brevard HEAT host Orlando Central Florida Christian Academy in another 2A regional quarterfinal.
