BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — Thomas William Brauer Sr., 61, of Merritt Island, went home to be with the lord in the comfort of his own home on Friday, May 18, 2012.

Tom was born on April 5, 1951 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

He has been a resident of Merritt Island since 1987.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Brauer of St. Petersburg, Florida.

He leaves behind his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 40 years, Fran.

He has three children, Stephanie Brauer Hyde (Joe), Jennifer Brauer Auriemma (Anthony), and Thomas William Brauer Jr. (Sybil); grandchildren, Adrianna, Ashley, Samantha, and Morgan Hyde, Savannah, Anthony, and Brooklyn Auriemma, and Thomas III and Madison Brauer; two great grandchildren, Ava and Mya Arent; brother, Robert Brauer (Sharon) of Boynton Beach, Florida; and sister, Lorna Kruse of Cocoa, Florida.

Tom started his career as an engineering coop with NASA in 1972, graduated from Florida Technological University in 1976. His career spanned the Apollo and Shuttle programs. He was an Electrical Engineer in the Guidance Control, Telemetry Systems, and Ground Data Systems. He also was in charge of the Launch Processing Systems for the United States Air Force to launch a shuttle program at Vandenberg Air Force Base from 1983-1986.

Tom was a member of the Merritt Island Elk’s Lodge 2650 and the Merritt Island Moose Lodge 2073. He proudly served two terms as Governor and was awarded the Fellowship Degree in 2005.

A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at the North Merritt Island Moose Lodge, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.
