BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Florida Congressman Dave Weldon announced today that he will enter the Republican primary fray, and to ultimately challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in November’s election. Weldon represented the Space Coast in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1994-2008.

In the following letter to his supporters posted on his website, Weldon, a Republican, resonates with the local community as a  strong conservative candidate who can win the election in November.

Here is Weldon’s letter in it’s entirety on DaveWeldonForSenate.com

Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting my Dave Weldon for Senate campaign website. I hope you’ll be encouraged by the statements and positions you see here for the coming battle in November. If you’ve been looking for a strong conservative candidate you can support, someone who can win the November election and represent Florida in the U. S. Senate, I am that man.

Today America is at a crossroads – a time and place in the history of our great nation where we the people have to make some choices. Choices that may not only determine our country’s direction for the next four years, but possibly decades to come.

They’ve let us down, put aside America’s greatness for “international acceptance,” turned their back on our Constitution and the ideals of our founding fathers, and disavowed the family, people of faith, and the economic engine that helped make America great. Sadly, Congress has aided and abetted the administration instead of checking their unfettered expansion of power. For me, running for U.S. Senate isn’t a career move. I have a fulfilling career in health care. I have no desire to be a “career politician.” But someone has to provide a conservative solution to the problems the administration has created and the Senate has endorsed.

Choices that may not only effect each and every American, but the people of the entire world. Many feel the current administration has made the wrong choices.

I’ll work to change Washington, not be changed by Washington. That was why I left my medical practice in 1994 and ran and was elected to the U.S. House where I served 14 years before returning to medicine.

And we did change Washington back then. We cut spending, reduced taxes, and reformed welfare. And not only did we balance the budget, we actually ran a surplus. It was hard. Yes, we were opposed every step of the way by liberal Democrats and the media.

I want to commit my experience and talent to solving the problems in Washington by bringing an unflinching conservative approach. I hope you will join me in this effort. This website will provide you with the opportunity to help. As the video says, I hope you will be my “running mate!”

  1. Dr. Dave,
We were very glad to hear that you are running to be Florida’s 2nd Republican Senator. Quite frankly, we were discouraged with the current slate in the Primary until we heard of your entry. We strongly supported you as our Represenatative in the past, and will look forward to doing so again as our Senator.
    God bless
