BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – A mother and her 3-year-old daughter were killed this morning in a crash on I-95 near Palm Bay involving a semi-tractor trailer towing a truck cab.

Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes said a Toyota SUV driven by Latwinnett Dixon of Palm Bay, 29, and her daughter, Zazirah Wilson of Palm Bay, 3, struck the rear of a semi that was towing a truck cab at about 4:45 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Malabar Road.

The driver of the semi, Carlos Abreu of Miami, 53, and the driver of the truck cab, Gaston Arbolaez of Miami Gardens, 43, were not injured, but Dixon and Wilson died as a result of their injuries.

Montes said Abreu was towing the vehicle of Arbolaez with a chain and they were traveling southbound on I-95 below the posted rate of speed.

She said for some unexplained reason, Dixon’s vehicle collided with the rear of the truck.

At this time no witnesses have come forward.

“Troopers are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicle being towed prior to the crash to contact FHP at 407-737-2213,” Montes said.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Southbound traffic on I-95 was re-routed off I-95 at Palm Bay Road to Minton Road while the accident was being investigated.
