State Road 528 Crash Kills Lakeland Man Near Cocoa

Crash Under Investigation

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Lakeland man was killed in a one-vehicle accident late Thursday night near State Road 528 and I-95 in Cocoa.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said Shaun Pleima of Lakeland,  22, and Jessica McQueen of Orlando, 23, were driving west in a 2004 Jeep SUV on State Road 528 in the left lane about 11:50 p.m. Thursday night when the vehicle suddenly traveled into the median.

Montes said the Jeep overturned multiple times, coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of State Road 528.

Pleima was transported to Holmes Regional Medical center in Mebourne, where he died of his injuries.

McQueen sustained minor injuires and was treated at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge.

Troopers are still trying to determine which person was driving the Jeep, Montes said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and charges are pending.
