The prescribed fire is managed by Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program with assistance of the Florida Forestry Service and Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The Coconut Point Sanctuary is at 4000 South Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach, just south of Publix.

Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals.

Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil.
