BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA— Calling it a reflection of heightened expectations, Brevard Community College head men’s basketball coach Jeremy Shulman today released the Titans 2012-2013 basketball schedule.

The 30-game regular-season slate includes 12 games in the Florida College System Activities Association’s tough Southern Conference against Indian River State, Palm Beach State, Broward and Miami-Dade colleges.

The conference winner advances directly to the March 6-9 Region VIII/FSCAA state tournament in Marianna while the second-, third- and fourth-place teams hold a two-game playoff for inclusion.

The conference’s fifth-place finisher is not eligible.

BCC opens the regular season against Snead State of Alabama on Nov. 2 in Niceville.

The first of its 15 home games is Nov. 7 against Daytona State. BCC concludes the regular season with a Feb. 20 home game against Broward.

“We are excited about our 2012-13 schedule and challenges that lay in front of us,” Shulman said.

“For the third year in a row, we have scheduled a tough 30-game schedule that should prepare us for not only conference play, but also hopefully a deep postseason run.

“Our schedule includes seven games against teams that could be ranked in the NJCAA National Top 25 Poll at some point in the season, including last year’s pre-season Top 5-ranked Palm Beach State, 2010-11 Florida champ Tallahassee, and perennial Suncoast Conference favorite Polk State.

“We begin the season at the Northwest Florida Tipoff Classic, where we will play two very good out of state teams, while getting our first look at defending Florida champion Northwest Florida State, whom we hope to meet up with at the state tournament this year.

Coming off 18 and then 21 wins, expectations are very high this year, even with a daunting schedule, and playing in one of the toughest conferences in the nation in the Southern Conference.”

  1. Just think, just a few years ago the college almost discontinued their entire athletic program at BCC. President Richie, Athletic Director Karr and the Board of Trustees should be thanked for their strong support they are giving the athletic program. All of the coaches at BCC should be commended for the great jobs they are doing in their sport. Basketball coach Jeremy Shulman is restoring the men’s basketball program to the high standerds set by past coaches Jim Oler, Kurt Stewart and Don Smith when they won state championships. For a great night of basketball one should attend some of the home games at the Mebourne campus.
