Mims Captures 10/11 Division District 22 Title

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The first champion of the 2012 Little League All-Stars Tournament has been crowned in Brevard County.

The Mims Little League All-Stars defeated Indian River City 19-0 at Holder Park on Tuesday night to wrap up the 10/11 baseball District 22 All-Stars title.

Playing for the Mims 10/11 baseball All-Stars are Austin Nix, Daemon Woodruff, Jonah Schwartz, Corbin Graves, Zack Quintinita, Tyler Jones, Jakob Wiirre, Hunter Layne, Tony Ledford, Ashton Beville and Seth Lovell. The team manager is Alan Layne. Serving as coaches are Todd Jones and DJ Lovell.

Seth Lovell had a three-run homer in the first inning for Mims against IRC, while Corbin Graves and Jonah Schwartz added doubles.  For Indian River City, Pranay Ramen and Joey Mel made several defensive plays to slow Mims down.

By virtue of the victory, Mims numerically eliminated the remaining teams in their division and claimed the 10/11 baseball division District 22 championship.

Mims advances to the Section 3 Tournament in St. Augustine on July 14.

In the 9/10  baseball District 22 tournament at Holder Park on Tuesday, Mims rolled past Rockledge 13-1 in 5 innings.

Tyler Smith of Mims hit a two-RBI double in the 2nd inning, scoring Hallie Blake and Mickey Wiirre.  Tristan Woodruff also doubled in the 2nd inning for Mims and Smith smacked another double in the 5th inning.  Nick Aramini had a stand-up double in the 4th inning for Rockledge.

In the District 22 Majors division baseball tourney at W.W. James Park in Titusville, Rockledge and Indian Rver City dueled for 6 innings with Rockledge pulling out an 8-5 win.

Brett Parrish and Thomas Berry each had solo home runs for Rockledge, while T. Lorenz had a two-RBI hit and Price Jennings added a double.  Bobby Guthrie had an RBI double for Indian River City.

In Juniors All-Stars baseball play at Holder Park on Tuesday, Mims and Port St. John teams battled for 6 1/2 innings before Port St. John took a 10-8 win.

Chad LeBlanc pitched 3 shutout innings for Port St. John and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.  Shilow Back added two RBIs and went 2-for-4.

For Mims, Matt Affeld was 3-for-4 with a triple, double, 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs, while Steven Layne was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

District 2

Softball All-Stars tournaments for District 2 are in full swing.

In the 9/10 softball tourney, Eau Gallie Blue shut out 5-time defending champion Viera/Suntree 10-0, whiloe Eau Gallie Gold topped West Melbourne 10-0.

Also in 9/10 softball, Viera/Suntree edged West Melbourne 4-3 and Eau Gallie Blue knocked off Eau Gallie Gold 23-5.

In Majors division All-Stars softball, Eau Gallie blanked Palm Bay 22–0 and Viera/Suntree defeated West Melbourne 10-4.

Viera/Suntree topped Eau Gallie 4-3 in another Majors softball contest and West Melbourne rolled past Palm Bay 16-3.

In Juniors All-Stars softball, South Beaches stopped Palm Bay 4-1 and then South Beaches shut out Eau Gallie 2-0.
