Motorcyclist, Passenger Critical Following Crash

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A couple riding a motorcycle were critically injured early Thursday morning in a crash on State Road 528 near Merritt Island.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Wanda Diaz said Matthew Harrington of Cocoa, 23, and his passenger, Jennifer Postel 0f Cocoa, 24, were  driving westbound on State Road 528 near Mile Marker 52 about 2:10 a.m. Thursday when they were struck from behind by a 2007 Altima driven by Kaitlyn Senkiew of Orlando, 28. 

Harrington and Postel were thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the north paved shoulder of the highway.

The Altima dragged the motorcycle underneath its carriage for some distance before striking a guard rail and coming to rest in the outside lane facing west.

It is unknown if Harrington and Postel were wearing helmets.

Senkiew was uninjured, but Harrington and Postel were transported to the hospital are listed in critical condition.

Diaz said troopers are continuing to investigate and charges are pending,
