BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – More than 1,000 people turned out to the 2012 Bi-Annual Brevard Republican Picnic July 14 held at  the Wickham Park Pavilion at Brevard Community College in Melbourne.

ROUSING SPEECH: Dr. Dave Weldon's appeal for smaller government made a lot of sense to the audience of about 1,000 people that turned out for the 2012 Bi-Annual Brevard Republican Picnic, held July 14 at the Wickham Park Pavilion at Brevard Community College in Melbourne. Weldon is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Bill Nelson. (SpaceCoastDaily.com image)

The large and enthusiastic crowd included many of the Republican candidates running in the primary elections on August 14 which allowed voters to meet and talk with candidates at the local, state and federal level – as well as members of local Republican clubs and other like-minded organizations.

Straw Poll, Candidate Speeches Energizes Republicans

Each candidate addressed the crowd and their messages all had a common theme of less government with more accountabilty.  A straw poll was conducted by the Brevard Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott, and the results are below.

Brevard Republican Executive Committee Hosts Event

The event was hosted by the Brevard Republican Executive Committee and organized by the Brevard Republican Council of Clubs.

“Brevard is a Republican county, and the fact is most of our races are decided in the primaries, not the general election,” said 2012 picnic chair Matt Nye.

“This is one of the most important election cycles in the history of our country,” Nye said. “Our goal is to turn out as many Republican voters as possible to ensure they are as well informed as possible before the primaries.”
