Titans Face Top-Ranked Team Sept. 8

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Brevard Community College women’s soccer team heads into its 2012 season ranked No. 8 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national poll and will learn quickly if it is worthy of the honor.

Three of the Titans’ first four games are against teams ranked in the top 5.

Brevard plays No. 5-ranked Butler Community College of Kansas on Sept. 7; No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Tyler, Texas Junior College on Sept. 8 — with both games at Butler — and No. 2-ranked and 2011 national finalist Darton, Ga., College on Sept. 15, at Darton.

And if those games aren’t enough, Brevard jumps right into its first two matches at in-state foes Polk State College in Auburndale and Broward College in Davie on Sept. 18 and 21 respectively.

Those games and four subsequent matches will determine whether Brevard qualifies for the postseason that concludes with the Nov. 11-17 NJCAA national tournament at Melbourne Central Catholic.

BCC head coach Jeff Carr took a realistic approach to the ranking.

“That’s very flattering that the rankers have thought enough about our program to rank us in the top 10,” Carr said. “That really is based on the results of last season and those players, and most of them are gone now and this is a whole new team. We will find out quickly if we are deserving of this ranking or not.”
