Cocoa Beach Claims Win In 2012 Opener

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Beach Minutemen are back on the floor and picked up a victory Tuesday in its season-opening volleyball match against Space Coast.

Cocoa Beach topped the Vipers 25-22, 25-14 and 25-19 to pick up where it left off last year under Coach Wayne Moore.

In 2011, the Minutemen won the Class 4A District 8 title for the first time and advanced to the regional quarterfinals before falling to Lake Highland Prep.

The team expects to contend again this season in a tough district that includes Astronaut, Cocoa, Edgewood, Satellite, Space Coast and West Shore.

Five new players have joined the Minutemen to replace graduating starters from last year’s successful squad.

We caught up with Cocoa Beach’s Megan and Mary Sweeney and Coach Moore at the Brevard County Prep Volleyball Media Day at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and asked what they hope to accomplish with the team this year.
