Merritt Island Mustangs Aim To Net Another Volleyball Title
By Space Coast Daily // August 23, 2012
First Match On Tuesday
BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – When looking for the top volleyball teams on the Space Coast this season, the discussion has to begin with Merritt Island High School.
The Mustangs captured the Class 5A state championship with a record of 27-6 a year ago and return a host of players from that title team.
Coach Angie Patrick also is back to guide Merritt Island, which opens play Tuesday at home against Palm Bay.
We had the opportunity to speak to Mustangs players Becca Bower and Morgan Van Alstine and Coach Patrick at the Brevard County Prep Volleyball Media Day at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy about the 2012 Mustangs team.
This team has all the ingredients for success and another state championship. Outstanding
players, intelligence, experience, exceptional chemistry and outstanding coaching. I know the coaching is awesome, because Coach Patrick is my daughter.
It’s true that the competition has their match against Merritt Island circled, but it’s also true that the competition has fear and respect for the Mustangs. THE BEST WAY TO BEAT COMPETITION UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS IS TO JUMP ALL OVER THE COMPETITION EARLY AND CAPTURE THE MOMENTUM. THIS WILL INCREASE THE FEAR ASPECT AND PUT THE COMPETITION ON THEIR HEELS PLUS LIMIT THEIR ADRENALINE AND ENTHUSIASM, WHICH WILL SPELL MUSTANG VICTORY.
