Potter finished the tour’s qualifying school tournament tied for ninth at six-under-par 210. He regrouped from a two-over 74 in round one by shooting a five-under 67 in round two and a three-under 69 in round three.

As Potter and the other 63 golfers who made the cut awaited the start of the fourth round on Friday, tournament officials decided to cancel the final 18 holes due to inclement weather.

“This is a great accomplishment for Zach,” FIT head coach Chris Saltmarsh said.

“It’s also great for Florida Tech men’s golf. I’m happy for him and look forward to following his progress.”

Potter was one of eight Americans to earn the Latinoamérica tour card. The seven other qualifiers are from Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, South Korea, Spain and Venezuela.

PGA Tour Latinoamérica will begin Sept. 3 with the Mundo Maya Open at the Yucatan Country Club in Merida, Mexico.

The opening tournament is one of 11 scheduled through December in seven countries: Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico.

The Cocoa Beach, Florida native graduated from Florida Tech with his Master of Business Administration degree in May 2011.

In two seasons as a Panther, he became one of the program’s best golfers, averaging 74 strokes in 53 rounds. He qualified for the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional as an individual in 2010 and helped the Panthers qualify as a team in 2011.
