BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE – Police are investigating a crash early Sunday morning that killed a 26-year-old Melbourne woman.

Melbourne Police Department spokesman Sgt. Sheridan Shelley said officers responded to car crash with injuries at Snicole Avenue and Dairy Road at 2 a.m. Sunday.

“A vehicle traveling east on Snicole Avenue ran the stop sign at Dairy Road and struck a vehicle traveling south on Dairy Road,” Shelley said.

One vehicle came to rest on its roof in a wooded area east of Dairy Road.

“A passenger traveling in the overturned vehicle was pronounced dead,” Shelley said. “The occupants of the second vehicle were trapped and had to be extricated by the Melbourne Fire Department.”

Shelley said the Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Team responded and assumed control of the investigation.

He said the deceased woman was identified as Berta Elizabeth Bryant of 435 Marquis Street in Melbourne.

“The crash is still under investigation and both drivers voluntarily submitted to a blood test to detect the presence of alcohol or chemical substances,” Shelley said.

Anyone has additional information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Melbourne Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit at 321-409-2412.
