Boy Drowns In Cocoa Beach Canal

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – A 2-year-old boy drowned in a Cocoa Beach canal on Saturday afternoon.

Cocoa Beach Police Department public information officer Major Jay Harmon said members of the Cocoa Beach Police and Fire Departments were called to the canal across from 33 Cedar Avenue in Cocoa Beach at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday for a possible drowning.

Harmon said officer arriving at the scene found a father who had discovered his 2- year-old son floating in the canal across from their residence.

The child was taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Harmon said it is unknown how the child got out of the house.

He said that both parents and other family members were present at the time the child went missing.

The case remains under investigation, Harmon said.
