BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A Melbourne died Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car on Hibiscus Boulevard.

Melbourne Police Department spokesman Sgt. Sheridan Shelley said officers responded to an accident scene near Glendon Drive and Hibiscus Boulevard shortly after noon Thursday.

Shelley said a 2007 Ford Edge driven by William Davis of Palm Bay, 36, had made a left turn west from Glendon onto Hibiscus. A 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by John T. Johnson of Melbourne, 62, was traveling eastbound on Hibiscus and struck the left side of the Ford.

According to Shelley, Johnson sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne where he was pronounced dead at 2:44 p.m.

Davis was not hurt in the crash.

Shelley said traffic investigators are still trying to determine what caused the accident.
