Commodores Off To Fast Start In Prep Volleyball

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Despite the loss of many of last year’s starters, the Eau Gallie Commodores  remain a force to contend with in prep volleyball this season.

Eau Gallie is off to a 4-1 start in Class 6A, District 7 under coach Barbara Berry and preparing to meet Cocoa Beach at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School.

Coming off a 16-11 season in 2011 that saw the Commodores win the district title and advance to the regional semifinals, Eau Gallie graduated eight seniors from that team. As a result, not much was expected from the Commodores this year, who won the 1983 Class 4A state volleyball championship.

We caught up with Eau Gallie’s Emily Smith and Lauren Vanderveer at the recent Space Coast Prep Volleyball Media Day event at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and asked them about the Commodores’ chances this season.
