BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE BEACH, FLORIDA – Spessard Holland Golf Course will be participating in the 6th annual Patriot Golf Day this weekend.

The event gives golfers the opportunity to donate $1 or more to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation (foldsofhonor.org), which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving this great nation.

Also during this weekend, Spessard Holland Golf Course at 2374 Oak Street in Melbourne Beach, will be hosting its first Veterans Cup. This will be conducted in a Ryder Cup format with 18 holes played Friday and 18 holes on Labor Day.

There are four teams with eight veterans on each team representing the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines with the cup going to the winning military service.

Ten dollars of their entry fee will be donated to the Folds of Honor Foundation. The first tee time will be at 9 a.m. on Labor Day with spectators always welcome.

“This is a great way for the golf industry to help the families of those who have lost their lives or have been injured so that we may have our freedom,” said Wayne Mendel, assistant manager at Spessard Holland Golf Course. “This is a wonderful opportunity for golfers in our community to give back to those who have given everything.”

There are more than 240,000 dependents of fallen and wounded military service men and women from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts alone and 85 percent of those dependents do not qualify for federal educational assistance.

Patriot Golf Day allows the Folds of Honor to present an ongoing tribute to brave service members by ensuring that the families of fallen and wounded warriors have hope for the right educational start to life and best future possible.

To contribute, call Spessard Holland Golf Course at 321-952-4529 and ask for Rene Uzee or Wayne Mendel. Non-golfers can also participate by making a donation to the foundation at its website at foldsofhonor.org.
