West Melbourne Police Department spokesman Lt. Richard Cordeau said that on Thursday, a 13-year old girl who attends Central Middle School reported that a man inappropriately touched her breast and buttocks while she was walking to school on Wingate Boulevard.

Cordeau said that earlier today police arrested Patrick Lee McAuliffe, 23, for driving while his license was suspended.

He matched the description of the suspect from Thursday’s incident and was questioned by West Melbourne Police detectives.

The investigation resulted in McAuliffe, of 4128 Duke Street in Melbourne, being charged with lewd and lascivious molestation.

As a result of the incident, West Melbourne residents in the area received a “Code Red Alert.”

West Melbourne Police also conducted a neighborhood canvass in the Wingate Boulevard area and proactively patrolled the Wingate Blvd area in marked and unmarked vehicles, Cordeau said.

“It was this proactive approach that ultimately led to McAuliffe being identified and arrested,” Cordeau said.

McAuliffe is incarcerated in the Brevard County Jail on a $15,500 bond.
