Teachers Union Enjoys Annual Labor Day Picnic

Some Candidates Attend

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A large crowd turned out for the Brevard Federation of Teachers Labor Day Picnic at Rodes Park in West Melbourne on Monday.

Richard Smith BFT president, said he was pleased to see so many teachers and their families attend the event, which included traditional picnic food, like hot dogs and hmaburgers, plenty of cold beverages, cotton candy, lots of music, and a bounce house and water slide for children.

BFT 1st Vice President Dan Bennett and 2nd Vice President Jenn Stokes were on hand to meet teachers and talk to them about their issues and concerns.

Several candidates seeking office in November also attended the picnic including John Paul Alvarez, running for State Representative in District 55, and Joe Pishgar, who is seeking the Brevard County Commission District 3 seat.

Alvarez said he could relate to the crowd at the event because he actually teaches at Bayside High School.
