After waiting through a 90-minute weather delay and a move to a new game site, the No. 1-ranked Brevard Community College women’s soccer team won in overtime, defeating host Butler Community College 2-1 in Augusta, Kan. on Friday evening.

Sophomore Courtney Hueston scored the game-winner for Brevard, heading in a long throw-in from freshman Heather Williams three minutes into the extra period.

Brevard improved to 2-0. Butler dropped to 3-2.

Friday’s game was tied 1-1 at halftime. Sophomore Morgan Taylor Smith scored her first goal of the season for BCC while Butler scored on a penalty kick.

BCC outshot Butler 13-5 and BCC goalkeeper Julia Kantor made four saves.

“It was a good win,” BCC head coach Jeff Carr said. “The wind was a major factor. We played through a sloppy game. We persevered and Julia made one unbelievable save.”

Butler was whistled for 20 fouls and Brevard for six.

BCC, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division I poll, plays defending NJCAA Division I national champion and No. 2-ranked Tyler (Texas) Junior College Saturday afternoon in El Dorado, Kan. Tyler is 1-0-1.
