BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Cocoa teen was severly injured after being struck by a car Monday afternoon while riding his bicycle.

Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol said Zachary Silver, 13, was trying to cross Peachtree Street in Cocoa at the intersection of Lake Drive about 4:45 p.m. Monday when he ventured into the path of a 2006 Hyundai driven Peggy Sawmill of Cocoa, 59.

Montes said the Sawmill was unable to stop in time and the front of her automobile struck Silver.

Silver, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando for treatment in critical condition.

Sawmill will not be charged with a moving violation, Montes said.
