FIT Honors Ballweber, Cacciapaglia As Student-Athletes of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA– Florida Tech senior Caitlyn Ballweber and graduate student Chris Cacciapaglia were recognized as Panther Student-Athletes of the Week for the period of Oct. 1 to 7 on Monday.

Ballweber, a civil engineering major from Homer Glen, Ill., helped the volleyball team post a 3-0 record last week by averaging 3.10 kills per set, hitting .362 and registering one solo block and two block assists.

Her block assist in the fifth set against Saint Leo won the set, 23-21, and the match, 3-2.

With the score tied at 12 in the fifth set against Florida Southern, she scored the team’s final three points on a solo block and two kills.

Her last kill gave her 18 for the match and it set a new season-high.

The win against Saint Leo was FIT’s first against the Lions in nearly seven years, while the victory against Florida Southern was its first in nearly four years.

Cacciapaglia, a marine biology major from Vashon, Wash., earned his second straight Sunshine State Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award presented by VALIC on Monday.

He guided the Panthers to their third top-five finish of the season by placing seventh at the Florida State Invitational with an 8K time of 25:33.6.

His time was the best among all SSC participants and it was his third top-10 finish of the season.
