Swami Unveils Blockbuster Upset Prediction

Quest For Perfection

Editor’s note: The All-Knowing Swami was born into a vagabond family of gypsy fortune-tellers and his first job was passing out towels at practices for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL. Marveling at his psychic talent, he was frequently asked by players to predict the outcome of everything from Pop Warner Pee Wees matchups to the total number of times that Bret Favre would unretire. The All-Knowing Swami has correctly identified the last 29 Super Bowl champions in advance and has been hailed as a master prognosticator by everyone from Jimmy the Greek to Pete Rose. Relocating to Florida in 1987, the Swami practiced the psychic arts in Cassadaga before arriving in Brevard in 1990. He has been following high school football here ever since and will take on all challengers as the undisputed king of making prep predictions.

With local teams headed into Week 6, ol’ Swami’s crystal ball has gone into overdrive to help him arrive at definitive prognostications about which teams will win this weekend’s clashes on the high school gridiron.

Yes, this is done all in fun, but attempting to match wits with the All-Knowing Swami’s greatly enhanced mental and psychic abilities might leave amateurs ready to throw away their scoresheets and begging for mercy after seeing first-hand the superiority his mystic powers.

Of course, if you’re a glutton for punishment and feel compelled  to put your minimal predictive foresight up against that of the All-Knowing Swami, expect to be filled with sorrow for suggesting such folly.

Here’s how things will shake down come Friday night…

Without further ado, let’s get right to it….

** HERITAGE AT EAU GALLIE — The Panthers are 6-0, loaded with weapons and playing like district contenders for the first time in their brief school history. The Commodores have shown flashes of exceptional play on both sides of the ball, although their 1-4 record so far for Coach Tim Powers does not accurately reflect strides the program has made this season.

** BAYSIDE AT MELBOURNE –  This will be a whole lot of fun to watch, featuring the high-powered offense of the Bears vs. the defensive prowess of the Bulldogs. Keep an eye on special teams play because  the Swami thinks that’s where this one will be won. Turnovers and missed kicks may decide the outcome of this pressure-packed matchup.

** ORANGEWOOD CHRISTIAN AT MCC After last week’s huge win over Orlando Christian Prep, the Hustlers are on the plus side of the schedule with a 3-2 record. The Rams, on the other hand, come in with a 3-1 record and will make this a difficult game for MCC to win. In one of the weirdest statistics of the Week 6 schedule, both of these teams have suffered 52-8 defeats to First Academy. Because this game is in Melbourne, Swami favors the Hustlers, but not by much.

** CALVARY CHRISTIAN AT FLORIDA AIR ACADEMY – The Lions of Calvary Christian have dropped three road games in a row and are now 1-4 on the year. The Florida Air Academy Falcons are 2-2, but looking to improve to 2-0 in Class 2A, District 3. Swami sees points — and lots of them — swooping down and making the evening a nightmare for scorekeepers.

** ASTRONAUT AT SATELLITE – For two consecutive weeks, Swami has chosen the Scorpions as his “upset special” of the week. And for two consecutive weeks, Satellite has not been able to make Swami’s prediction come true. For those wondering, Swami will not lose his any sleep over the picks, but he also will steer clear of choosing Satellite this Friday night. Astronaut will be fired up and ready for Coach Randy Hallock.

** HOLY TRINITY AT NAPLES NEUMANN – The Neumann Celtics are 4-1 and playing before a home crowd. The Tigers have some bonafide talent, but it’s a long bus ride from Melbourne to Naples. Expecting it to be back-and-forth early, however, ultimately Neumann will implode sending the Tigers home happy.

** FORT PIERCE CENTRAL AT VIERA – The Cobras are unbeaten and mighty, Viera is winless and searching for consistency under Coach Kevin Mays. Won’t happen this week for the Hawks.

** ROCKLEDGE AT MERRITT ISLAND – Really like what quarterback Nic Smith is doing for Merritt Island. His poise under pressure  and reluctance to commit turnovers show he is sticking  to Coach Jeff McLean’s development plans. Rockledge is another test for Smith and the Mustangs though. After falling last week to Cocoa, it won’t be much easier this week for the ‘Stangs. Rockledge features power back Richard Carter and an experienced QB in Alex Adler.

** INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AT MI CHRISTIAN –  The Cougars won for the first time last week in four tries.  Opponent International Community is 2-2 and has decent size and experience. Swami flipped a coin, flipped it again and then settled for 2-out-of-3 in Rock, Paper, Scissors to come up with answer from the great unknown about this game.

** TITUSVILLE AT SPACE COAST — In their last three games (all losses), the Terriers (1-3) have been outscored 145-21.  Space Coast is coming off a huge road win over Montverde Academy and looking to make it two in a row over Titusville. The crystal ball is very murky about this game, but Swami’s motto is “When in doubt, trust your gut instinct.”

** COCOA AT COCOA BEACH – Playmakers will be out in force for this district showdown. The Tigers are accustomed to tough situations and although they are only 2-2, every game they have played so far has been against an undefeated opponent. It’s also the case this week. The Minutemen are 5-0 and seemingly marching in lockstep toward the postseason. The “three-headed monster” (Tarean Folston, Antwan Lee and Lorenzo Pratt) of the Tigers will be a chore to stop on the ground. But if the Minutemen can come up with a few critical stops in the Red Zone, Cocoa Beach can turn it around and put points on the scoreboard courtesy of weapons of their own in QB David Deessent, running back Jammal Eveillard and receiver Boone Lewis. This will be the best game of the night to watch and very entertaining.
