Second Time This Season At No. 1

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the second time this season the Brevard Community College women’s soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the NJCAA Division I poll.

BCC is 10-1 and on an eight-match winning streak heading into Saturday’s 4 p.m. match against Dakota County Technical College of Minnesota at Polk State College’s field in Auburndale. The BCC program is in its third season of existence.

BCC has wrapped up a berth in the NJCAA postseason, playing a district final game on Nov. 3 in Mississippi to determine if it advances to the NJCAA national tournament from Nov. 11 to 17 at Melbourne Central Catholic High School.

BCC also was ranked No. 1 in the Sept. 5 national poll and despite suffering one loss and losing several key players to season-ending injuries, the team is succeeding against a challenging schedule.

“It is a great honor for our program and school to be No. 1 again,” BCC head coach Jeff Carr said. “It says a lot about our young ladies and our coaching staff and the support we get from the administration including our president Dr. Jim Richey.

“Again the only poll that matters is the last one, but we are very humbled and thank the voters for this honor and hope that this will motivate us to work even harder to push on in practice and games.”

Paradise Valley Community College of Phoenix, Ariz., which is 15-0-1, is ranked second nationally. Iowa Western Community College, 13-1-1, is third; Butler Community College of Kansas, 17-2, is ranked fourth and defending national champion Tyler Junior College of Texas, 11-2-1, is fifth. Tyler handed BCC its only loss of the season.
