BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County officials have received a notice from “American Picker,” the popular show on the History Channel, that the producers are, “looking for leads, specifically interesting characters with interesting items and lots of them.”

Friedman indicated that it is not a lock the show will come to the Space Coast, but is nonetheless seeking help to let everyone know it’s a possibility.

“Word-of-mouth is a great way of finding avid collectors,” said American Picker Producer Jodi Friedman says in his letter to the Brevard County Commission.

Popular TV Show

The show follows Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz as they travel around the greater Midwestern United States as well as the eastern and southern U.S. in a Sprinter van, buying antiques and collectables.

They work with Danielle Colby-Cushman, who runs the office of their business, Antique Archeology, from their home base in Le Claire, Iowa. While Danielle researches potential leads, Mike and Frank attempt to track down potential sellers on the road.

Wolfe and Fritz explore people’s homes, barns, sheds, and other outbuildings, and other places where they have collected antiques and collectibles. They call upon casual collectors, hoarders and, occasionally, people who have inherited overwhelming collections of apparent junk.

Wolfe, who has been “picking” since age four, has a particular interest in antique motorcycles, air-cooled Volkswagens, old bicycles and penny-farthings, while Fritz has a fondness for antique toys, oil cans, and old Hondas. They have purchased old advertisements and commercial signage, film posters, a rare 15-gallon visible gasoline pump, and a Piaggio Ape that one of their friends told them is probably the only one of its kind in North America.

The series debuted on January 18, 2010. The premiere episode of American Pickers produced 3.1 million total viewers, making it the highest rated History channel debut since Ice Road Truckers in 2007.

Season 2 premiered June 7, 2010. The September 8, 2010 episode “Laurel & Hardy” garnered ratings as high as 5.3 million viewers in the 25–54 adult class. As of that episode, the show retained the title of #1 new non-fiction series of 2010 among total viewers and adults 25-54.

Season 3 premiered March 28, 2011. In December 2011, American Pickers revealed that Antique Archaeology had leased a 1910s car factory in Nashville, Tennessee, which originally made the Marathon, for a second location for their business, as a way to decrease the distance of hauling their finds from the southern states back to the Iowa location.

Friedman’s notice also indicates the show is contacting local media, chambers of commerce and various individuals about the pending visit. Only private collections are considered, so stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions and, in general, public sales will not be considered.

  1. I began watching American Pickers earlier this year. I had only caught it casually the past couple years – not really knowing what it was all about. I am now fascinated by this program. I watched it all day yesterday and only switched to something else when The History Channel started repeating what I had seen earlier. The things these guys find and their history is amazing. I love the interaction between Mike & Frank plus Danielle. Keep up the good work guys. I only wish I had a bunch of junk for you guys to “pick.”

  3. I wanted to contact Danielle about an item I am interested in selling. No one has seen one like mine…..not even on The Antique Road Show. It has to do with a mode of transportation for children in the 1930’s. (it is a very common thing in an uncommon form and I will gladly send a photo when I can get a specific e-mail address.) Thank…..
