BCC Basketball Teams Prepare For First Home Games

Men's, Women's Squads 1-1 In Early Games

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Both the Brevard Community College’s women’s and men’s basketball teams will play their first home games of the season this week in the Melbourne Campus gym.

Each team is 1-1 coming off season-opening tip-off classics last weekend at Daytona State College and Northwest Florida respectively.

The women kick things off, hosting Santa Fe Community College at 6 p.m. tonight. The men host Daytona State College at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission to both games is free.

The women opened their season on Friday with a 77-40 defeat at the hands of Daytona State but rebounded to rout Potter House Christian Academy, 98-69 on Saturday.

The men lost to Salem State of Alabama 59-57 on Friday after failing to hold two 13-point leads but they turned things around by thrashing Albany Tech of Georgia 107-78 on Saturday.

Sophomore co-captain Shaneece Stephens led BCC’s women in scoring, collecting 27 points in the two games while freshman Nia Frederick scored 22.

For the men, sophomore tri-captain Addison Spruill collected 50 points for the weekend, 33 coming against Albany Tech. Freshman Jure Gunjina scored 42 over two games. Gunjina also collected 20 rebounds for the weekend.

Santa Fe is 2-0 with victories over Palm Beach State College and Miami Dade College. Daytona State is 1-1 with a 92-68 victory over Southwest Academy and a 72-67 loss to Miami Dade College.
