FIT Professor Publishes Information Security Textbook

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Institute of Technology Professor Michael Workman recently published Information Security for Managers through Jones & Bartlett Learning.
Workman’s textbook is intended to equip managers with tools to keep their databases and networks safe from outside attacks that can result in the loss of money and jobs.
The text includes coverage on threats to confidentiality, integrity and availability and countermeasures to preserve them; Workman draws extensively from the latest applied research and development on the subject.
This textbook takes a unique approach. Information Security for Managers utilizes an incremental development method called “knowledge scaffolding,” which is a proven educational technique for learning subject matter thoroughly by reinforcement in an elaborative rehearsal process.
In addition to his work at Florida Tech, Workman is also the director of the Security Policy Institute.
Prior to joining Florida Tech, he was a professor of information systems at Florida State University.
He has published more than 60 research manuscripts and three books and served as chief technology officer for NETCommerce; a senior vice president at Bank of America in charge of network applications; and director of network and systems security at France Telecom.
