BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Rockets Midgets division youth football team claimed the Southeast Regional Championship by defeating the South Park Panthers 22-0 last weekend in St. Cloud.

By winning the regional title, the Rockets advance to compete in the Pop Warner National Championships starting Saturday at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee.

The Rockets are seeking donations from both corporate and private sponsors, as well as holding car washes and bucket drops to help finance the team’s appearance in the national competition.

The Rockets Midgets remain unbeaten on the year under Coach Chris Hampson and have only given up six points all season.

This is the first Rockets squad to advance to the national championships.

In 2001, the South Brevard Cougars, a forerunner of the Rockets, won the national Pop Warner Jr. Midgets division title by beating the Gilroy, Calif. Browns

In 2010, the Merritt Island Mustangs fell in the Jr. Midgets division national championship game to the Far West, Ariz. Jets.
