BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A woman was found dead Friday morning in Melbourne and police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Melbourne Police Department spokesman Lt. Heath Sanders said detectives were called to a parking lot at 2404 S. Harbor City Boulevard at about 6:40 a.m. Friday regarding a deceased woman.

Upon arriving at the scene they discovered the body of 35-yard-old Shemeika Shantel Smith of Palm Bay.

Smith was awaiting trial in January after having been arrested by West Melbourne police in June on charges of trafficking in stolen property and providing false information to a pawnbroker.

Sanders said detectives are actively working the case and are asking for the public’s help.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
