OCALA, FLORIDA – The Brevard Community College men’s basketball stumbled to a big early deficit and could not recover, losing 95-69 to powerhouse Gulf Coast State College on Saturday’s first day of the Florida JUCO Shootout in Ocala.

Gulf Coast established an early 10-point lead and kept the pressure on, building the advantage to 46-28 at halftime. Gulf Coast extended the lead to 59-36 early in the second half and later 71-40.

From there it the only thing in doubt was the final score in what BCC head coach Jeremy Shulman had considered a measuring stick game for this team.

BCC fell to 9-3 with the defeat and saw a seven-game winning streak snapped. The loss was its worst of the season and the 95 points represent the most the Titans have surrendered. Gulf Coast, ranked third in the state, improved to 12-1.

BCC plays Tallahassee Community College — 8-3 and ranked sixth in the state — at 2 p.m. Sunday at the College of Central Florida in Ocala. BCC was ranked 10th in the state.

Sophomore tri-captain Gary Gaskins led BCC with 16 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Luka Pajkovic added 13 points, tri-captain Nyles Evans 11 and tri-captain Addison Spruill 11.

BCC wraps up the 2012 portion of its schedule with home games at the Melbourne Campus gym at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Hillsborough Community College and 7 p.m. Thursday against TAAG Academy of Tampa. Admission is free.
