Cantatas are special vocal arrangements with accompaniment by instruments and traditional for this time of year.

The public is invited to a Christmas cantata on Sunday, Dec. 16 in Cocoa at the United Methodist Church of Cocoa.

The free event will be presented during the 11 a.m. worship service at the church at 825 Forrest Avenue in Cocoa.

The annual event in celebration of the Advent season will be presented by the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, Jim Bishop, Music Director and Dr. John MacDonald, organist.

The “Song of Emmanuel” by Lloyd Larson is a blend of traditional Christmas carols and contemporary Christian worship music that tells the story of the first Christmas.

It is presented with narration from the Gospels of the biblical New Testament.

Music Director Jim Bishop believes the annual event holds a warm and welcoming message.

“Our Chancel Choir has been working on this presentation since August,” said Bishop. “We are all looking forward to sharing the message of love that was born on the first Christmas night and hope that members of the community will come and celebrate the joy of Christmas with us.”
