Activities Honor Civil Rights Pioneers

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The annual Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial Service will be held Saturday in north Brevard.

The graveside service begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at LaGrange Cemetary, 1575 Old Dixie Highway in Titusville.

A Memorial Program will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Cuyler Community Center at 2329 Harry T. Moore Avenue in Mims.

There will be a reception at the Moore Memorial Park at 2180 Freedom Avenue in Mims at 5 p.m.

This activity is sponsored by Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department’s North Area Parks Operations and the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex, Inc.

The events are free and open to the public.

In 1951 on Christmas night and the Moore’s 25th wedding anniversary, a bomb exploded under their home fatally injuring both Harry and Harriette Moore.

Harry Moore died on the way to the hospital and Harriette Moore died nine days later, Jan. 3, 1952, two days after Harry Moore’s funeral.

The Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Cultural Center promotes awareness of their unique contributions to the early civil rights movement. Dedicated to the preservation of African American history, it is a repository of the Moore family artifacts and historical America. Tours of the museum are available during open hours.
