Titans Drop 13th Straight Game

BREVARD COUNTY, FL – The Brevard Community College women’s basketball team allowed a three-point lead with 18 minutes and 9 seconds to play to evaporate into a 67-44 loss to Indian River State College on Saturday at the Melbourne Campus gym.

BCC trailed at halftime 29-28 but then led 32-29 before going ice cold. Meanwhile Indian River turned up the heat, exploding from a 34-33 deficit with 13:30 to play to leading 51-36 following BCC’s next basket 6 minutes and 52 seconds later.

BCC’s 13th consecutive loss dropped it to 2-16 overall and 0-3 in the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference.

Indian River, which played far more up tempo and with more energy than BCC in the second half, improved to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

“We couldn’t shoot,” BCC head coach Renee Bellamy said. “I don’t know if there was a lid on the top of the basket or what. This is our home court. We know these baskets well.

“One of the biggest issues is we can’t afford to go scoreless. And then turnovers. Major turnovers from key people. We’ve got to relax. They tried to play too fast with this team. When we don’t score we have to stop the other team from scoring. It’s important for us to play better defense as a team.”

Once again leading scorer sophomore Shaneece Stephens led BCC, tallying 16 points. Once again she was the only Lady Titan in double figures.

Sophomore Bria Dorsey, who played with the speed and grace of a greyhound, led Indian River with 21 points. Classmate Precious Roberts added 19 while freshman Miranda Wilt dominated the defensive rebounding in the second half.

BCC next plays at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday hosting conference foe Palm Beach State in Melbourne.

Admission to all BCC home games is free.
