FIT Swim Squads Compete In Final Regular-Season Meet

Teams Train For Conference Championships

WINTER PARK, FLORIDA – In the final regular-season meet for the Florida Tech men’s and women’s swim teams Saturday, the men’s side pulled out a closely contested victory, 116-89, on the road at Rollins Cillee in Winter Park. The FIT women’s squad fell to the Tars, 138-66.

The Panthers men got off to a quick start, taking a win in the opening event, the 200-yard medley relay.

Kaikea Nakachi, Brian Dumont, Steven Moodie and Trevor Eastin combined for a time of 1:39.79 to out-touch Rollins by just .2 seconds.

Freshman Zac Paryzek followed with a convincing win in the 1000 yard freestyle. Paryzek touched the wall in a school-record time of 9:58.11 to earn a nearly 20 second victory. He would go on to add another win in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.66, five seconds faster than his competition.

The Panthers added other victories in the 50 yard freestyle, where Moodie led the field, and the 200 yard backstroke, where Sam Trible, Dumont and Nakachi combined to finish first, second and third, respectively.

The women’s team picked up its lone individual victory in the 200 yard backstroke, when freshman Laura Holty touched the wall first in a time of 2:19.53. The team grabbed a win in the final event of the meet, the 200 yard freestyle relay. A combination of Liana Soileau, Madison Hart, Shelby Pearce and Kristen Jones earned the win.

The Panthers will now look toward nearly a month of training for the Sunshine State Conference Championship. The conference meet is set to begin Feb. 13 in Clearwater.

The meet will mark the final chance for members of FIT to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship in Birmingham, Ala.
