Timpy Sinks First-Ever SCJGT Hole-In-One

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Twelve-year-old Delia Timpy may be the female competitor to have ever hit a hole-in-one in a junior golf competition.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, from 99 yards with a 9 iron, she managed to hit a nice little soft draw that had all eyes on the hole as it landed on the green, took two hops, and disappeared.
And then the astonished Timpy said, “I hit a hole-in-one,” – nine times.
To be sure, it is the first hole-in-one in Space Coast Junior Golf Tour (SCJGT) competition history, and it came on the third hole at Cocoa Beach Country Club.
The only thing I regret was that I did not have my camera trained on the face the jubilant player.
It was the look that overshadowed the actual feat itself that did it for me. That look on her face is exactly what programs like ours is all about – first disbelief then turning to jubilation as the entire gallery rose up in a roar. I have witnessed holes-in-one before but this one is special. This is what the Space Coast Junior Golf Tour is all about and I am excited to be part of it and to provide opportunities for young golfers to enjoy the game of a lifetime.
“Delia is one of our veterans and has hardly missed a SCJGT event in two years when the program began,” said Coach Greg Ford, the SCJGT Tournament Director.
“As a matter of fact, I think she played in our very first event over two years ago and she leads her division in the Coca-Cola Cup Series this year by almost 500 points. Delia takes her golf game very serious and practices almost every day –I am so happy for her,” said Ford.
Timpy is fortunate to have a seasoned instructor and LPGA Golf Professional, Holly Gregory, working with her. There is a wonderful bond there with Holly and all of her students and even on her day off Holly managed to come out to the course to congratulate Delia.
