Expected Construction In 2014

BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The city of Rockledge has a growing dog population and  the Rockledge Recreation, Open-Space, and Conservation Foundation has a solution that will give dogs the freedom to roam and their owners a chance to meet.

The Rockledge Dog Park is a proposed off-leash dog park located within Dr. Robert A. Anderson Park designed for small dogs, big dogs, and even their owners.

With virtually one dog for every four people in Rockledge, a park with amenities for people and their pups makes sense. With no city capital improvement funds available for their new dog park proposal, the Rockledge ROC Foundation has turned to Neighbor.ly in order to seek needed funding.

The 60-day campaign puts emphasis on social interaction and health. according to a press release from PR Web.

The park concept, to be constructed on readily available park property, was both approved and recommended by the Rockledge City Council and the Rockledge Citizens Recreation Advisory Board.

The estimated cost will be less than $18,000, and once funded, construction is projected to be completed in calendar year 2014.

Continued operation and maintenance of the dog park will be funded by the Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department.

“A dog park in Rockledge is long overdue,” said Larry Schultz, former Rockledge mayor. “We need a place where dogs and their owners can socialize and exercise. The dog park will create a new sense of community for all dog owners. The dog park will promote the health of the city’s dogs through exercise, reduce weight due to inactivity and reduce confrontation thru interaction with other dogs. I believe that the dog park is a win for the animal, the dog owner and the city.”

Neighbor.ly is the civic crowdfunding platform. Neighbor.ly provides a unique opportunity for local governments, civic organizations, and civic ventures to obtain funding for civic-natured projects.

Neighbor.ly’s mission is to help cities save tax money while greenlighting projects. And let citizens, companies and institutions invest in the places and civic projects they care about.

  1. Wonderful idea. We live in Rockledge and have to take our dogs either to Cocoa Beach or wickham park for exercise. Both parks are great, but it would be really nice to have something closer.
