Mid-Day Crash Kills Motorist In Palm Bay

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay police and and traffic homicide investigators are at the scene of a fatal traffic accident that happened just after noon on Saturday in Palm Bay.
Palm Bay Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez said patrol officers responded to the area of Lamplighter Drive near Havre Street when a resident in the area called to report a vehicle had flipped over in a shallow canal.
Martinez said when officers arrived on scene, they found a single occupant believed to be the driver was found deceased inside the vehicle.
The victim is a black woman and officers are attempting to confirm her identity.
“The dive team is responding to assist with recovering the vehicle from the canal,” Martinez said.
Lamplighter Drive from Jarvis Street to Gilpin Street will be closed for a few hours while the scene is cleared.
Traffic homicide investigators will process the scene in an attempt to determine what happened.
