BCC dropped to 20-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference slipping behind Palm Beach State, which was 24-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference heading into Wednesday’s game at Miami Dade College.

Broward improved to 15-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference. It avenged a 70-68 defeat at BCC on Jan. 26 and put the Titans into a position of having to win at rival Indian River State at 2 p.m. on Saturday and their final three games after that to have a chance at winning the conference title.

The conference winner automatically advances to the state tournament. The second-, third- and fourth-place teams play in the Feb. 25 and 26 conference tournament to determine the second entrant to the state playoffs.

Brevard hosts Palm Beach State at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 in Melbourne, visits Miami Dade at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 and hosts Broward at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20 to close the regular season.

BCC has beaten Indian River twice, traded home court victories with Palm Beach State and beaten Miami Dade twice.

Sophomore co-captain Addison Spruill led Brevard with 19 points and five rebounds against Broward. Classmate and co-captain Nyles Evans had 18 points and freshman Jordan Smith nine.

Broward led at halftime 49-41.

The outcome did not please BCC head coach Jeremy Shulman.

“We had better improve quickly and take responsibility for our own actions,” Shulman said.
