BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A truck that spilled wet cement on State Road  528 is blamed for a series of accidents in Cocoa on Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Barbara Matthews of the Cocoa Police Department said a cement truck was traveling west on State Road 528 near Cocoa about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

As the truck came over the U.S. Highway 1 overpass, it dumped a large amount of wet cement on State Road 528,” Matthews said.

This immediately caused four cars and a motorcycle to crash.

Those subsequent crashes were minor and no injuries were reported.

Matthews said at this time police and crews are attempting to clean up the cement, however, State Road is expected to remain closed for about two or three hours.

She said one westbound lane is partially opened and traffic is getting by very slowly.

In addition, the U.S. Highway 1 on-ramp to west State Road  528 also is closed at this time.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.

Matthews said an investigation is ongoing at this time and charges are pending.
