The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Merritt Island High School Auditorium, 100 Mustang Way off North Courtenay Parkway, on Merritt Island.

Music will be performed “Sousa-style,” with popular and contemporary works mixed with rousing marches made popular by John Philip Sousa.

Band vocalist Jean Black, as well as trombone soloist Ron Youmans will be featured.

Led by conductor Marion Scott, the musical event is free with no ticket required and no reserve seating.

In 1999, the John Philip Sousa Foundation awarded the prestigious Sudler Silver Scroll Award to the Community Band of Brevard for “demonstrating particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years.”

Community Band of Brevard conductor Marion Scott said that nothing pleases a crowd more than a rousing concert featuring the March King.

“Marches by John Philip Sousa really get to the core of the American spirit,” said Scott. “You can’t help but leave the concert with your head held higher.”
