George S. Hiegel Dies At 86

OBITUARY
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – George S. Hiegel passed away March 4, 2013 at the age of 86. Born in New York City, he was a resident of Satellite Beach, Florida.
Mr. Hiegel retired from the New York City Fire Department.
Loving husband and father, he is pre-deceased by his wife Geraldine S. Hiegel and survived by his daughters Claudia A. Keenan of Satellite Beach Florida, Nancy J. Hiegel of Arlington, VA and his brother John Hiegel of Woodland Hills, CA.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Beach Funeral Home in Satellite Beach, FL.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, 4450 W. Eau Gallie Blvd. Suite 280, Melbourne FL 32934.

Heaven has gained one of the greats. Poppo, I am blessed to have a grandfather that I also consider a dear friend. I will miss your wisdom, advice, honesty, encouragement, bravery, and unrivaled sense of humor. I’m glad that I got to spend a lot of time with you as I got older. I always looked forward to visiting you in Florida, our great conversations, listening to your stories and life experiences, road trips in Florida, doing “guy stuff” around the house, making the rounds to visit Howie, Nualah, Tommy P.O., and Conor in Babylon. So many great memories. You told me guys like us have to stick together. I feel like you’ll always be with me in spirit. You are truly a rock and they do not make them like you anymore. It’s difficult to come to terms with the fact that you are no longer here, but I realize that I’m lucky to have had you in my life. So thank you “sir”…I forgot I don’t have to call you “sir”. I may also call you “your highness, your honor, or your majesty.” What a guy!
