BREVARD COUNTY • SUNTREE, FLORIDA – With palm fronds in hand, the congregation and guests will process triumphantly into the sanctuary of Advent Lutheran Church for a very special experience on Palm Saturday and Palm Sunday, March 23 and 24 in Suntree.

Palms symbolize the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Advent Lutheran Church in Suntree will present the narrative drama “The Cry of the Whole Congregation” during Palm Saturday and Sunday services on March 23 and 24. (Image courtesy of Advent Lutheran Church)

In lieu of the traditional services at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 8 and 11 a.m. Sunday, the church at 7550 North Wickham Road in Suntree will present a unique narrative drama by Walter Wangerin Jr., “The Cry of the Whole Congregation.”

The drama is written for four readers (narrator, Judas, Peter and Pilate) and follows the events from Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem through His crucifixion.

The congregation plays a key role and is responsive throughout the drama, from the praises of the adoring multitude to the shouts of “Crucify.”

Described by author Walter Wangerin Jr., “The Cry of the Whole Congregation” has a unique purpose.

“Its purpose is to allow each worshiper suddenly to discover his/her own rootedness in the drama which is Christ’s—so that the Passion Story may no longer be mere story for observance, analysis, learning or history; so that it embraces each worshipper.”
