ABOVE VIDEO: The Silver Lining is author Bill Hahn’s emotional story about turning tragedy into triumph, described in his own words.

Blindness followed by vision, coma and seizures, followed by awakening, diabetes and kidney failure, followed by dialysis, dialysis followed by a double organ transplant, doubts and fears, followed by belief…and belief…followed by faith.

The Silver Lining is author Bill Hahn’s emotional story about turning tragedy into triumph, described in his own words:

The labs, charts, buzzes and beeps were a constant reminder of my situation. I escaped these trials through dreams of places outside the confines of the hospital walls and my life-threatening disease. My poetry, prayers, photographs, songs, lyrics and videos gave me peace of mind. My self-medicating prescription for freedom rejuvenated my soul in order to allow focus on the job at hand…staying alive! I never would have survived without my mother, father, my family support team, my organ donor family and God. The cover photography (pictured at right), made more dramatic with lighting, was meant to catch your attention. It is my badge of honor.

I received a kidney and pancreas transplant on New Year’s Eve, 2008. My goal is to raise awareness for organ donation and the Gift of Life. As a living organ donor you can double the life expectancy of your recipient’s organ and life. I hope this photograph, while graphic, will help you understand the need for living organ donors.
