The U.S Coast Guard said Thursday that the Carnival Dream based in Port Canaveral has reported propulsion and equipment problems while docked at St. Maarten.

This news comes less than a month after the Carnival Triumph was stranded for five days in the Gulf of Mexico while filled with more than 4,200 vacationers following an engine fire.

In a press release, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Sabrina Laberdesque said the Carnival Dream’s captain reported problems with the ship’s propulsion system and sewage while moored at Phillipsburg in St. Maarten.

Early Thursday afternoon, Carnival Cruise Lines said it will fly all passengers on board the ship home by private charter. Passengers will receive a three-day refund and offered a 50 percent reduction in fare for a future cruise.

Carnival has scrubbed the next scheduled Caribbean cruise for the Carnival Dream, issuing full refunds for those booked on the voyage.

The Carnival Dream made its maiden voyage in September 2009 and has a capacity of 3,646 passengers and 1,367 crew members.

According to Laberdesque, the cruise line is trying to rectify the problems and the Coast Guard has not been asked for assistance currently because the ship is docked.

An engine fire crippled the Carnival Triumph in February, leaving 4,200 without working toilets or power.

Carnival Dream is the first Carnival Cruise Lines ship to employ a water park with multiple slides and has a two-deck miniature golf course.

Ship amenities also includes a wide outdoor promenade deck with an outdoor cafe and a whirlpool jacuzzi in four locations along the outside edge of the deck.

Carnival Cruise Lines recently announced expansion of Carnival Dream’s year-round schedule from Port Canaveral to include an eight-day Caribbean departures along with two new five-day options, and a seven-day eastern Caribbean itinerary.
